Phytochemical and Ethnopharmacological Perspectives of Ehretia laevis

Ehretia laevis Roxb. (Boraginaceae) has been extensively used as a traditional remedy for the treatment of diverse range ailments related to respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive and against several infections. This review critically assesses documents, first time, fragmented information on E. laevis, including its botanical description, folklore uses, bioactive phyto metabolites pharmacological activities. The goal is explore this plant therapeutically. Ethnomedicinal surveys reveal that by tribal communities in Asian countries various disorders. Quantitative qualitative phytochemical investigations showed presence important phytoconstituents such pentacyclic triterpenoids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, fatty steroids, alkaloids, aliphatic alcohols, hydrocarbons, amino carbohydrates, vitamins minerals. Fresh parts, crude extracts, fractions isolated compounds have reported exhibit broad spectrum therapeutic activities viz., antioxidant, antiarthritic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, antidiarrheal, antidysenteric, wound healing anti-infective shown be an excellent potential source drugs mitigation jaundice, asthma, dysentery, ulcers, diarrhea, ringworm, eczema, diabetes, fissure, syphilis, cuts wounds, inflammation, liver problems, venereal infectious Although few authenticated uses but employed uncharacterized extracts plant, major concerns raised are reproducibility efficacy safety material. outcomes limited screening suggest there urgent need in-depth plant.
